Day Trips from Auckland: Why ZORB Rotorua is Worth the Drive

Cafes are overdone, you’ve been to the beach a zillion times, and you can walk the tracks around your home with your eyes closed you’ve been around them so many times. Sometimes, you need to mix it up and there’s only one solution: ROAD TRIP!

A road trip from Auckland to ZORB Rotorua has all the makings of the best mini holiday ever. We have everything needed to break up the routine and provide that laugh-till-your-sides hurt fun!

Why ZORB is the best day trip from Auckland

ZORB Rotorua is the only place in New Zealand where you can experience downhill ball rolling in its purest form. You’ll laugh, you’ll get wet, and you’ll come out screaming for more!

Don’t just take our word for it, here are some of the things we’ve heard from people who are fresh out of a ball:

“That’s more fun than my wedding day will ever be!”

“That is the most fun thing I’ve done in Rotorua!”

“I knew it would be fun, but not THAT fun!”

With our minimum age of 5, you can bring the whole whānau to join in on the fun. We’re only 5 minutes from Rotorua’s CBD, so it’s easy to plan the day around your ZORB adventure. We’re just around the corner from Eat Street, the lakefront, and incredible walking tracks.

The Best ZORB Ride Options for Auckland Day Trippers

If you’re a first timer and have heard of ZORB but haven’t made the trip, start with the Dual Straight track. It goes straight down the hill and gives you an epic taste of what to expect for your next rides!

Bringing the family with you? Check out our multi-ride options to keep the kids rolling with laughter. Did we mention we can fit up to 3 people in one ZORB ball? That’s right, you can slip, slide, and slosh around with your mates or kids!

Adrenaline-hungry? Check out MEGA. It’s our steepest, fastest, and tallest track, hitting 45 degrees down the hill at its steepest point! It’s also got some pretty insane views of Lake Rotorua. I mean, just check this out!

We’re Not Just For Summer Vibes

When you think of ZORB, you may think cool water, that famous Aotearoa sunshine, and Lake Rotorua as your view. While we love to soak up the sun as much as the next guy, we also have some tricks up our sleeve to keep things cozy in the Winter!

We’ve got hot tubs, saunas, a hot room, heaters, and, best of all, we’ve got barista-level coffee (some have said it’s the best coffee in New Zealand). The water in the ZORB balls? That’s heated up in the Winter and cooled down in the Summer to match the conditions.

ZORB is an all-weather activity! Whatever the weather decides to throw at us, we’ve got the solution for it.

Tips for Planning Your ZORB Day Trip

First and foremost: Bring 👏 Your👏 TOGS (swimmers) 👏

Each ZORB ride is filled with 40 litres of fresh water (cooler in the Summer, warmer in the Winter), so you’re going to get wet. No sweat if you forget, we’ve got you covered with shorts, shirts, and towels for hire if you need them!

We typically recommend 90-120 minutes while planning your visit. This gives you enough time to get in, get changed, hop in the hot tubs for a bit, and enjoy your rides without feeling rushed! You can also sip on a coffee or cold drink before, in between, or after your rides.
